The moon cakes
The Middle-Autumn festival is in September or October.
It is Shu's favorite time of the of the year .
She is very excited.
They are going back to Mum's old home town to see grandma and grandpa.
“I love family get-togethers!”
The train is full.
She puts her bag under the seat so her little brother,
Ying, can sit on her lap.
It is a long journey.
Ying goes to sleep.
But Shu looks at the fields and mountains.
Grandpa is waiting at the station.
He gives Shu a big hug .
“Grandma is at home getting dinner ready,” he says.
“Have you brought the moon cakes?”
“Oh ,yes,” says Mum,“I made lots. They are in the bag.”
Mum looks around.
But where is the bag ?
“Oh no !”says Shu.
“I left the bag on the train .”
They run back . But they are too late.
The train has gone.
Grandma is happy to see Mu, Shu and Ying.
But she is not so happy about the moon cakes.
“Oh no! We all love your moon cakes!
They are so special! ”
“There's no time to make any more ,”says Mum.
“I'm too busy with the baby.”
Shu is sad. She looks at Grandpa.
He is busy too. He is on the phone.
“I wish I hadn't left the moon cakes on the train!”says Shu .
Soon the house is full of relatives .
Uncle Jinpeng has come from Shanghai.
Aunty Yawen has come from Beijing.
Dinner is ready.
Everyone sits down. But where is Shu?
Her seat is empty .
Mum calls her but she doesn't answer.
Mum looks around . Grandpa's place is empty too.
Grandma calls grandpa." Don't worry," she says.
“They will be back soon .”
While they wait for Shu and grandpa,
they go outside and look at the moon .
It is round and bright .
“How lovely!”says grandma.
“Yes,” says a voice,“but not as lovely as these moon cakes.”
“Moon cakes ?”says grandpa .
“What moon cakes?”
“These moon cakes,”says grandpa.
“The train station called .They found the bag.”
Grandma lsughs."I don't think we will want any dinner !"
she says.“There are so many moon cakes!”
